## Staying in Peterborg

Peterborg is a peninsula, and that shape decides most of a stay here. The US Census Bureau's estate map gives Estate Peterborg about 1.3 square kilometers of land, a single ridge running out into the sea with Magens Bay on one side, so the ground falls away from the ridge road and almost every house is reached by a driveway that climbs or drops to it. Rentals are houses on those slopes, and the grid below shows what owners list here today, each with the nightly rate from its own calendar. A week settles into a pattern: Magens Bay in the morning, 9 minutes by car from the middle of the area, the afternoon back at the house, and dinner in Charlotte Amalie, 13 minutes away, on the nights nobody cooks.

Plan on a car, and ask the owner what they drive up their own driveway. The ground here measures steep. Arrival is easy: Cyril E. King Airport is 27 minutes from the middle of the area. A taxi from there to Peterborg is $23 for one person or $17 each for two or more on the Virgin Islands Taxicab Commission's tariff in force since October 2022, plus $3 a bag. St. John is the long run. The Red Hook ferry terminal, where the boat to Cruz Bay leaves hourly for a 20-minute crossing, is 29 minutes away at the far end of the island, and the last ferry back is 10 pm from Cruz Bay per the Department of Public Works as of September 2026. Every day on St. John begins and ends with that drive.

Two kinds of beach sit within reach, and they are different places. The shore at Little Magens, the cove nearest the middle of the area, is about 6 minutes on foot by our measurement. The shoreline there is public under the Virgin Islands Coastal Zone Management Act, per the Department of Planning and Natural Resources, but its public access page lists no access point on this peninsula, so ask the owner which path their guests use. Magens Bay proper is the park beach, 9 minutes by car, where the Magens Bay Authority charges $7 a person and $2 to park, with the gates open 7 am to 5:30 pm, per its passes page as of October 2026. Further out, Hull Bay is 16 minutes, Coki Beach 19 and Lindquist Beach at Smith Bay Park 20, all from the middle of the area, though Lindquist has been shut for sargassum since July 9, 2026 by order of the Magens Bay Authority, with no reopening posted as of October 8, 2026.

Here is what the peninsula asks of you. The water you can walk to is a small cove with no lifeguard, showers or lunch named by any authority, and the beach that has them is a drive and a gate fee. The walk back up from the shore is the hard half, on ground this steep. And the East End is nearly half an hour off, so two days on St. John cost close to two hours in the car. A family that wants Magens Bay most days and Charlotte Amalie within a quarter of an hour gives up little here; a group planning a week of ferries is better placed near Red Hook.

Suits a family or couple with a car who want Magens Bay most mornings and Charlotte Amalie for dinner some nights.

## Getting around

Peterborg needs a car: the ground measures steep, so ask the owner about the driveway, the beach is on foot and Charlotte Amalie is 13 minutes by road.

A 2026 sale listing on Peterborg shows what we take to be the pattern on the ridge: a cistern of about 45,000 gallons under the house and a standby generator that switches on by itself. The north face of the ridge can be short of signal, by our read, so check that the house wifi carries calls well.
