It suits a week where the swim is a walk and St. John a short crossing. Red Hook and its ferries are a 9-minute drive from the middle of the area. Car needed Rolling hills Beach on foot 9 min to Red Hook ferry 26 min to Charlotte Amalie ## Staying in Secret Harbour Here the measured middle of the area is on the sand, so a swim before breakfast needs no car and no plan. The Secret Harbour Beach Resort stands on the bay: beachfront studios and one-, two- and three-bedroom condominium suites, an oceanfront hotel room, and hillside units reached by a private road, with stairs down to the pool, as its own pages describe them in October 2026. Nobody owns the sand outside your balcony, so expect company there from people who drive in for the day. How you book decides what you get. The resort says every unit is privately owned and that it assigns units by room type on a rotating basis, 12 to 24 hours before arrival, as of October 2026. Through the resort you choose a type and learn the unit the day before. A listing on this site is one named place and its owner, who can say which unit or house it is, whether it is on the beach or up the hill, and what comes with it. Keep a car for the week, even with the beach at the door. The resort leaves that choice to the guest, saying it depends on how much exploring you want to do; by our measurement every other beach, the ferry and town are drives over ground that measures rolling. From the middle of the area the Red Hook ferry terminal is 9 minutes by car, Charlotte Amalie 26 and Cyril E. King Airport 40. Red Hook's restaurants, shops and grocery stores are a mile away by the resort's count, and it takes grocery orders before you land, which spares the first evening's errand. For a day on St. John, the last boat back is 10 pm from Cruz Bay, per the Department of Public Works as of September 2026. Measured from the middle of the area, Vessup Beach is 5 minutes by car, Sapphire Beach 10, and Coki Beach and Bolongo Bay 13 each; Magens Bay, over the hills on the north shore, is 28. Vessup is the contrast to the beach at home: a free strand with nothing built on it. Lindquist Beach is 8 minutes away and closed. Sargassum shut Smith Bay Park on July 9, 2026, as the St. Thomas Source reported; the Magens Bay Authority's closure stands until further notice, and no reopening had been posted when we last checked, on October 8, 2026. What you give up is the edge of the water to yourself, and the resort's comforts unless they come with your stay. The Secret Harbour Beach Resort keeps its pool, fitness center, tennis court, loungers, umbrellas and towels for its guests, and gives a parking space beside each unit to its guests, per its FAQ as of October 2026. It does not say whether someone renting a unit straight from its owner counts as one. Before you book, ask the owner which unit or house it is and whether the pool and the parking space are part of the stay.
