Limetree Beach
Limetree Beach, St. Thomas, Virgin Islands, is the cove in front of Limetree Beach Resort by Club Wyndham on Frenchman's Bay, 14 minutes by car from Charlotte Amalie. The resort calls it private; the law makes the shoreline public. As of October 2026 entry is free and no visitor parking rule is published. Below: access, the law, the water.
Conditions: The first steps into the water are over rock, with a gentle surf, so water shoes help. The resort publishes nothing about the water and names no lifeguard, as of October 2026.

Getting there
About 14 minutes by car from Charlotte Amalie. How to reach St. Thomas: Flights to St. Thomas, How to get around St. Thomas, St. Thomas airport, St. Thomas cruise port, St. Thomas map, St. Thomas weather by month, Things to do in St. Thomas.
Getting to Limetree Beach and where to park
Limetree Beach is on Frenchman's Bay, 14 minutes by car from Charlotte Amalie, and the last stretch runs through the Limetree Beach Resort by Club Wyndham, which stands between the road and the sand. The resort is the former Bluebeard's Beach Club; its operator's release of Dec 16, 2020 said it had reopened after a three-year hiatus.
Where a visitor parks is the open question. Wyndham's page says nothing about parking, describes no gate and sets no visitor rule, as of October 2026. Local accounts, one of them written since the reopening, describe a free parking area for people who are not staying; ask at the entrance, or call the resort first at +1 340 776 4770. A car is the practical way here.
Private by the resort's word, public shoreline by law
Wyndham's page describes a private beach. The Virgin Islands Open Shorelines Act says otherwise about the water's edge: everyone keeps the right to use and enjoy the shoreline, the strip from the seaward line of low tide inland to the line of natural vegetation, a natural barrier or 50 feet, whichever is shortest, and nobody may put a barrier or restraint across it. The Superior Court of the Virgin Islands quoted both sections in Kosick v. Bar-Sela, Civil No. 172/2005, a ruling about Vessup Beach, and said the Act exists to guarantee beach access to everyone and not only to people with a boat.
The Act stops at that strip. It does not open the resort's cabanas, pool or parking, and neither the statute nor the court names a path across private land to reach the sand; the court called land-side restrictions questionable without ordering anyone to open a gate. If you are turned away, the Department of Planning and Natural Resources says beaches cannot be fenced off and asks you to report it to its Division of Coastal Zone Management on St. Thomas, at Tutu Park Mall, +1 340 774 3320, weekdays 8 am to 5 pm, as of October 2026.
A small cove with a rocky step into the water
Limetree is a small beach on a natural cove, and the catch is underfoot: the first steps into the water are over rock, with a gentle surf. Water shoes answer it. Nothing the resort publishes describes the water or the sand; its page lists hammocks under palms on the property and a water sports center, and by our read those palms give the beach some shade.
What a visitor can count on is short. The restrooms, by our read, are the resort's, near the pool bar, listed in local accounts with no rule from the resort for visitors, so ask. No chair rental or lifeguard appears in anything the resort publishes for visitors who are not its guests, as of October 2026. We would call it a quiet cove, used mostly by the resort's own guests; nobody publishes a count.
The tradeoff: almost nothing about a visitor's day here is in the operator's own words. Parking, chairs and restrooms are questions to ask at the entrance. Morningstar Beach, the next beach west and 11 minutes from town, has restaurants with posted hours and a hotel that publishes its parking price.
Snorkeling from the sand with Aqua Marine's guide
The snorkeling is from the sand along the shore, and the one published way to do it with help is Aqua Marine Dive Center's guided snorkel at Limetree Beach: $30 a person, 1 hour 15 minutes, mask, fins, snorkel and a flotation device included, and a minimum of four snorkelers, as of October 2026. The shop is at the resort. Its page says the guide shows where to get in and out of the water, which on a beach with a rocky entry is most of the value, and takes 10 percent off a gear rental afterward.
The boat trips start elsewhere. Aqua Marine's dive and snorkel boats leave from Saga Haven Marina, not from this beach; its site says so in capitals. By our read it scores 3 of 5: the rocks at both ends of the cove are worth a look, and nothing here is worth planning a day around.
The pool bar serves daily; the pool is for guests
The Limetree Pool Bar is open 10:30 am to 8 pm daily, a swim-up bar and grill by Wyndham's page, as of October 2026. Whether a visitor off the beach may eat there is less settled. The bar's own site said on Oct 5, 2026 that the bar and tables are open to the public and the pool is for resort guests only; Wyndham's page sets no visitor rule. Treat the bar as a question to ask at the entrance, with the parking.
Suits a guest of the resort, a snorkeler who wants a guide in the water, and a visitor after a small beach 14 minutes from town who is content to ask. For a south-side beach with a published parking price, Morningstar Beach is the next one west.

- Is there a fee at Limetree Beach?
- No entrance fee is published as of October 2026. The resort's page calls its beach private, but the public keeps a right to the water's edge: under the Open Shorelines Act, the strip between the low-tide line and the first vegetation or barrier, never more than 50 feet deep, may be used by anyone and may not be blocked. The pool and cabanas stay with the resort's guests.
- Do you need a car to get to Limetree Beach?
- A car is the practical way, 14 minutes from Charlotte Amalie, but the resort publishes no parking rule for visitors as of October 2026 and describes no gate. Ask at the entrance, or call the resort first at +1 340 776 4770. A taxi skips the parking question: from Charlotte Amalie it is $15 for one passenger or $12 per person in a party of two or more, and from the airport $18 or $14 plus $3 for each bag, on the Limetree row of the Virgin Islands Taxicab Commission's tariff, unchanged since October 2022.
