Devil's Bay on Virgin Gorda
Devil's Bay is the reward at the end of the boulder trail on Virgin Gorda: a small horseshoe of sand at the island's southwestern tip, closed in by granite at both ends, with no road to it: you come by the trail, or ashore by dinghy from the moorings. It shares a day pass with The Baths next door and suits swimmers and snorkelers who don't mind carrying their gear in.
Conditions: A calm cove on most days, with rocks to snorkel at both ends. It opens southwest, so a south or southwest swell runs straight in, by our read of the map. Boats moor outside and come in on the dinghy line. No lifeguard listed as of October 2026.

Conditions today at Devil's Bay

- Sea state
- Sheltered. The swell is from the east-southeast at 0.6 m, period 6 seconds; Devil's Bay opens southwest, so the bay sits in the lee.

- Surf and water test
- No forecast office writes a surf zone forecast for these beaches and the British Virgin Islands publish no weekly water test we can read, so the sea state above is our read from the wave model at the pin, and this page carries no water-quality line.

Routes to Devil's Bay
About 10 minutes by car from Spanish Town. How to reach the British Virgin Islands: British Virgin Islands map, British Virgin Islands weather, month by month, Ferries between the British Virgin Islands, Getting to the British Virgin Islands, Things to do in Tortola and the British Virgin Islands.
Two trails down to Devil's Bay from The Baths
On foot, by one of two trails that both begin at The Baths. Drive or take a taxi to the National Parks Trust's lot at the top of The Baths, 10 minutes from the Spanish Town ferry dock, and choose your way down.
The first trail leaves the lot and runs through dry scrub and low boulders to the cove. It is the shorter of the two and the sensible way to carry a bag, a mask and lunch. The second starts on the sand at The Baths and threads south through the boulders, with steps and rope rails, and the Trust warns that you will crawl, climb ladders and wade. Most people make a loop of it: down to The Baths, through the rocks to Devil's Bay, and back up the scrub trail to the car. The scrub trail is the quicker walk, and the questions below time both.
By boat, you pick up one of the Trust's moorings outside the bay, which needs a moorings permit, and take the dinghy in along the line.
Taxis meet the boats at the Spanish Town dock and will wait at the lot by arrangement. Fares are set by the government's taxi tariff, last revised in December 2022, so ask for the tariff fare before you get in, and agree the time you plan to be back at the top.
Devil's Bay beach: calm water and nothing built
A strip of sand between two arms of boulder, which the Trust describes as horseshoe-shaped, and water that is calm on most days. The Greater Baths Day Pass you bought at The Baths covers it, and the hours are the park's. Boats moor outside the bay and their crews come in along a dinghy line, so by midday the sand holds people who arrived by water as well as by trail.
The tradeoff: the cove has nothing on it. The Trust lists no restrooms here; its bathrooms and lockers are back at The Baths. Bring water and something for shade, because the scrub behind the sand is low and the Trust's mention of shade umbrellas is the only cover on record. On cruise-ship days the crowd that fills The Baths in the late morning walks on to here, so by our read Devil's Bay is quietest at the opening and after three.
Snorkeling off the boulders at each end
The snorkeling follows the boulders that close the cove, a short swim from the sand at either end, and the Trust calls the bay a tranquil place for swimming and snorkeling. We rate it 4 of 5: good rock to follow close in, with the walk in wearing fins as the price. Stay inside the swim-line markers, which keep the dinghies to their channel.
The cove opens to the southwest, so on most days the trade wind leaves it calm; a south or southwest swell, when one runs, comes straight onto the sand. No authority lists a lifeguard. If the water is up, Savannah Bay on the north coast faces the other way and is the swim to try instead. Devil's Bay suits confident swimmers and families with children old enough to manage the trail; with toddlers and a beach bag, the carry back up is the hard part of the day.
