Spring Bay on Virgin Gorda

Spring Bay is The Baths with room to sit, one beach up Virgin Gorda's shore: the same granite boulders on white sand, with a lawn behind it and a pool ringed by rocks at one end. It shares the National Parks Trust's day pass with its famous neighbor and suits families who want the boulders without the crush, as long as they bring lunch and water: nothing is sold here.

Conditions: Rocks to snorkel a short swim from the sand, and the Crawl, a pool ringed by boulders. It opens west onto the channel like The Baths, so a winter swell reaches it, by our read of the map. No lifeguard listed as of October 2026.

Conditions today at Spring Bay

As of 7:00 AM on Oct 22, 2026, island time. Read each morning from Open-Meteo at the pin, the one feed that covers the British Virgin Islands; the bay opens west, by our read from the map.

Sea state
Sheltered. The swell is from the east-southeast at 0.6 m, period 6 seconds; Spring Bay opens west, so the bay sits in the lee.

Surf and water test
No forecast office writes a surf zone forecast for these beaches and the British Virgin Islands publish no weekly water test we can read, so the sea state above is our read from the wave model at the pin, and this page carries no water-quality line.

Open-Meteo wave model at the pin; no BVI agency publishes a beach advisory.

Rain
Dry through the day; the chance of rain peaks at 2%.

Routes to Spring Bay

About 10 minutes by car from Spanish Town. How to reach the British Virgin Islands: British Virgin Islands map, British Virgin Islands weather, month by month, Ferries between the British Virgin Islands, Getting to the British Virgin Islands, Things to do in Tortola and the British Virgin Islands.

Getting to Spring Bay from the Spanish Town dock

By sea to Spanish Town, then by road. Taxis meet the boats at the ferry dock, and the drive south through The Valley takes 10 minutes; the road runs out right at the beach, and the Trust describes the last stretch on land as a palm-lined avenue. No lot is mapped. Fares are set by the government's taxi tariff, last revised in December 2022, so ask the driver for the tariff fare before you set off, and agree a time to be picked up.

The Baths lot is the same drive from the dock, and the two beaches sit side by side on the shore, a few hundred meters apart on the map. On foot from The Baths lot it is about 10 minutes round by the road, since no path along the shore is mapped. By boat, the Trust keeps mooring buoys off the bay, which it calls a popular day anchorage.

Is Spring Bay part of The Baths?

It is part of the same pass. The National Parks Trust sells one Greater Baths Day Pass for The Baths, Devil's Bay, Stoney Bay and Spring Bay, so a family that has paid at The Baths has paid here too. The beach itself is the boulder landscape the territory is known for, granite stacked on white sand, on a smaller scale, with an expansive lawn behind the sand where the Trust has put children's swings, picnic tables and a barbecue grill.

The Trust closed the park for most of 2025 to rebuild its walkways and drainage after years of erosion, and reopened it on December 31, 2025. The chairman of its board said the damage had made it unsafe for the public, so a review older than this year may describe a fenced-off beach.

The tradeoff: for all the lawn, nothing is listed beyond it. The Trust names no restrooms, no food and no rentals at Spring Bay, and no lifeguard is posted. Bring water and lunch, or plan on Top of the Baths up the road. Cruise lines sell Spring Bay as the quieter alternative to The Baths, so on a ship day the quiet is relative.

Swimming in the Crawl and snorkeling the rocks

At one end of the beach is the Crawl, a small bay closed by a ring of boulders that the Trust calls a natural swimming pool; fishermen once kept turtles and fish in it. By our read it is the calmest water on this shore for small children, with the boulders taking what swell there is. Outside it, the snorkeling follows the rocks a short swim from the sand. We rate it 4 of 5: good rock and fish close in, with the winter swell as the drawback.

The bay opens west down the channel, the way The Baths do, and when strong winter swells arrive the Trust closes The Baths' moorings and discourages swimming there. On those days, by our read, Spring Bay takes the same water: keep to the Crawl or watch from the lawn.

The trail through the rocks to Trunk Bay

A trail leaves the north end of the beach through the rocks, and the National Parks Trust says it leads to Valley Trunk Bay, with secluded rock pools and swimming spots along the way. The Trust says the trail disappears through the rocks, so expect boulders rather than a path and wear shoes that grip on wet granite. Our measurement stops short of the sand, because no mapped path reaches it, so allow time and turn back while you still have water.

The day pass does not name Trunk Bay, so by our read nothing is collected there. It suits a pair of confident walkers who want a beach with fewer people than either park; with toddlers, the lawn and the Crawl are the day.

Questions people ask about Spring Bay

Is there a fee at Spring Bay?

Yes. Spring Bay is on the Greater Baths Day Pass, $3 an adult and $2 a child plus a few cents online, per the National Parks Trust of the Virgin Islands as of October 2026. The same pass covers The Baths, Devil's Bay and Stoney Bay that day.

How do you get to Spring Bay on Virgin Gorda?

10 minutes by car or taxi from the Spanish Town ferry dock, south through The Valley to where the road meets the sand. No lot is mapped and taxi fares follow the government's tariff, so ask for the tariff fare and agree the pickup time with the driver before you set off.

Can you walk between The Baths and Spring Bay?

Yes, by the road: about 10 minutes on foot from The Baths parking lot to Spring Bay's sand, measured on the road network. The beaches are only about 230 m apart, but no path along the shore is mapped, so the walk goes round by the road. Both are 10 minutes by car from the Spanish Town ferry dock.

Can you walk to Trunk Bay from Spring Bay?

Yes. The National Parks Trust names a trail through the rocks from Spring Bay to Valley Trunk Bay, with rock pools and swimming spots on the way, as of October 2026. The walk is over boulders and has not been measured end to end; wear shoes that grip and carry water.
