Mahogany Run golf course on St. Thomas
The Fazio-designed 18 on the north side of St. Thomas has sat idle since Hurricanes Irma and Maria: Mahogany Run golf course has not reopened, and nothing points to a return this season. St. Thomas golf now means a simulator or the university's campus course. For a real round, the nearest open 18 is a short flight away on St. Croix.

Is Mahogany Run golf course open in 2026?
No, by our read as of October 2026. The course was damaged by Hurricanes Irma and Maria in September 2017 and has not reopened. Its owner sold it in 2018, it went on the market in a larger land package soon after, and by 2020 the fairways had grown back to brush. The course's own website no longer resolves, nobody posts hours or takes tee times, and no rebuild or reopening has been announced.
Much of the internet has not caught up. Golf directories and booking pages still print green fees, a pro shop number and a tee-time form, which is why the question keeps getting asked. Treat any of them as a page from before 2017. The grounds are private, so the old holes are not a walk either.
The Fazio course and its Devil's Triangle
For close to four decades this was the one public 18 on St. Thomas: a par-70 layout by George and Tom Fazio, cut into the steep hills between Magens Bay and the island's northeast corner. Its fame was three holes. The 13th, 14th and 15th, known together as the Devil's Triangle, played along the cliffs above an Atlantic inlet, and they were the reason visiting golfers made the drive over the hill.
The name has outlived the golf. Today Mahogany Run mostly means the homes and condominiums on the hillside around the old course; Mahogany Run, the area, covers what staying there is like.
Where to play golf on St. Thomas now
Two places, neither of them a full course.
The Ritz-Carlton, St. Thomas runs a Topgolf Swing Suite in its Grand Palazzo: a simulator bay with virtual courses and other games, which the resort pitches for groups and for practicing your swing. It books by the hour, $125 for up to eight people plus a 20% service charge, on the resort's activities page as of October 2026; the page does not say whether it takes non-guests, so ask the activities desk. From the Red Hook ferry terminal it is about 8 minutes by car.
The University of the Virgin Islands lists the Herman E. Moore Golf Course on its St. Thomas campus, beside Brewers Bay, among its student recreation facilities. It posts no hours, holes or public rules, so call the university before you bring clubs.
| From | Ritz-Carlton suite | UVI campus course |
|---|---|---|
| Red Hook ferry terminal | about 8 min | about 35 min |
| Charlotte Amalie ferry terminal | about 34 min | about 8 min |
| Cyril E. King Airport | about 42 min | about 7 min |

Two open 18-hole courses on St. Croix
The territory's golf today is on St. Croix, where two 18-hole courses post their 2026 rates on their own sites. The Buccaneer is an 18-hole, par-70 resort course by Bob Joyce, opened in 1973, 5,668 yards, with the sea in view from 13 holes. It is open from 7:30 am to sunset every day, and a round usually runs under four hours.
| At The Buccaneer | 9 holes | 18 holes |
|---|---|---|
| Green fee | $70 | $120 |
| Junior, 16 and under | $50 | $80 |
| Military | $65 | $90 |
| Cart, per person | $25 | $40 |
| TaylorMade rental clubs | $35 | $55 |
Rates from The Buccaneer's golf page, checked October 21, 2026. Green fees do not include the cart, walking is allowed, and the cart's driver must be 18 with a license. The dress code is the club kind: a collared shirt with long pants or Bermuda-length shorts for men, golf shirts with slacks, golf shorts, skirts or capris for women, caps brim forward, and no denim, tank tops, cargo pants or swimwear. Book tee times with the pro shop on 340-712-2144.
Carambola Golf Club, in a valley on the island's northwest side, is the other: a par-72 course by Robert Trent Jones Sr., opened in 1966. Its own rates page prices 18 holes for visitors at $125 with a cart or $85 walking from November 1 to April 30, and $100 or $70 from May 1 to October 31, with rental sets at $20 for 18 holes and a twilight rate from 3 pm. It takes tee times online and on 340-778-5638.
The tradeoff: St. Croix is usually reached by air from St. Thomas, so a round there takes a full day out of the week, with a car or a taxi at the other end. See getting around St. Thomas for the airport run before you book the plane.
Packing clubs for a St. Thomas week
Leave them at home unless the week includes St. Croix. Both St. Croix courses rent sets by the round, On St. Thomas the only place a full set might see use is the university's campus course, and that is worth a call first; ask the Ritz-Carlton's activities desk what its simulator suite supplies. As of October 2026 nobody has said when or whether Mahogany Run will reopen.
