Lambert Beach on Tortola
Lambert Beach is the wide, quiet bay on Tortola's north-east shore, a long run of sand east of Stony Bay Point with a resort behind it and little else in sight. There are no bars on the sand and no crowd. The catch is the way in, a road through the resort's grounds.
Conditions: Calm on most summer days. The bay opens north-northwest with nothing outside it, so a winter north swell, roughly November to March, reaches the sand, by our read of the map. No lifeguard.

Conditions today at Lambert Beach
As of 7:00 AM on Oct 22, 2026, island time. Read each morning from Open-Meteo at the pin, the one feed that covers the British Virgin Islands; the bay opens north, by our read from the map.
- Sea state
- Sheltered. The swell is from the east-southeast at 0.7 m, period 6 seconds; Lambert Beach opens north, so the bay sits in the lee.
Open-Meteo wave model at the nearest ocean cell; the bay's opening is our read from the map.
- Surf and water test
- No forecast office writes a surf zone forecast for these beaches and the British Virgin Islands publish no weekly water test we can read, so the sea state above is our read from the wave model at the pin, and this page carries no water-quality line.
Open-Meteo wave model at the pin; no BVI agency publishes a beach advisory.
- Rain
- Dry through the day; the chance of rain peaks at 2%.

Routes to Lambert Beach
About 23 minutes by car from Road Town. How to reach the British Virgin Islands: British Virgin Islands map, British Virgin Islands weather, month by month, Ferries between the British Virgin Islands, Getting to the British Virgin Islands, Things to do in Tortola and the British Virgin Islands.
Driving to Lambert Beach through the resort
By car from Road Town, out along the east of the island and down Lambert Road, which is a service road through the resort and ends a short walk from the sand. No public lot is mapped, and the resort publishes nothing about where a visitor should leave a car. Our read: ask at the front desk before you leave the car, and do not take a guest space.
From the Road Town ferry terminal it is about the same drive as from the middle of town; from the West End terminal it is most of an hour, so anyone arriving on the Red Hook boat should plan Lambert for another day. A taxi will make the run from Road Town; agree the fare and the pickup before the driver leaves.
Can you use Lambert Beach without staying there?
The sand, yes, by the government's own words. On March 9, 2023, the territory's Minister for Natural Resources and Labour told the House of Assembly that all BVI beaches are public, and that even where a beach adjoins private property, access must be provided for public use; the public may use the water and the shore up to the land that is privately owned. The resort's grounds, pool, loungers and restaurant are another matter: those are for guests unless the resort says otherwise, and its own page prints no day pass or visitor rule as of October 2026.
In practice, by our read, that means bring what you need, keep to the sand below the resort, and buy lunch only if the resort offers it to you. The tradeoff is real: with no public restroom, no public lot and no shop on the beach, Lambert is a swim for people who come prepared.
Calm in summer, waves in winter: the water at Lambert
Calm on most summer days, open to the swell in winter. The bay faces north-northwest, by our read from the map, with nothing offshore to break a swell, so in summer the water is usually easy to swim and in a winter north swell, roughly November to March, waves run onto the sand. On those days Josiah's Bay, the next bay west across Stony Bay Point, is where the surfers go; Lambert is a beach to walk rather than swim. There is no lifeguard.
We rate the snorkeling 3 of 5: the rocks at the east end are the place to look, and the rest of the bay is sand. Nothing here is worth a whole morning with a mask; Brewers Bay, on the other side of Road Town's ridge, is the reef. Lambert suits a couple or a family staying on the east end who want a long, empty beach for an afternoon and will carry their own shade and water.
Questions people ask about Lambert Beach
Can you go to Lambert Beach if you are not staying at the resort?
Yes, to the sand: the Minister for Natural Resources and Labour told the House of Assembly on March 9, 2023, that all BVI beaches are public, up to the privately owned land. The road down runs through the resort, which publishes no visitor rule as of October 2026, so ask at the front desk where to park.
How far is Lambert Beach from Road Town?
23 minutes by car from the middle of Road Town to the end of Lambert Road, by our measurement, and 23 from the Road Town ferry terminal. From the middle of East End it is 17; from the West End ferry terminal it is 54.
Is Lambert Beach good for snorkeling?
3 of 5, by our read: rocks at the east end are worth a look on a calm day, and the rest of the bay is sand. A winter north swell, roughly November to March, ends it. For a reef from the sand on Tortola, Brewers Bay is the better choice.
Is Lambert Beach the same as Josiah's Bay?
No. They are neighbors on Tortola's north-east shore, with Stony Bay Point between them: Josiah's Bay is the next bay west, with a pond behind it and the surf in winter, and Lambert Beach is the wider bay east of the point, below the resort. The maps do not always name Josiah's Bay's sand or its road, so check the name at the bottom of the road.
