How to choose a Frenchtown restaurant

Choose by the meal and the day, because the four kitchens barely overlap. A weekday lunch means Twisted Cork, or Pie Whole from noon, Tuesday to Sunday. Dinner splits four ways: Oceana at Villa Olga, the only one here with a written booking policy; Sambuca's, in the old Normandie Bar under a new owner, from 4:30; Twisted Cork's short evening; and Pie Whole's brick oven, the one kitchen here open on a Sunday.

Twisted Cork keeps the shortest evening, 5 to 8pm, and posts a Monday to Thursday happy hour from 5 to 6 with $5 house wines and small bites, per its own site as of October 2026. For an early dinner before a drive home, that is the one to plan around.

The tradeoff: a short list and a short week

Four rooms is a small list, and the week shrinks it. On a Sunday, Twisted Cork, Oceana and Sambuca's are closed, which leaves Pie Whole as the only kitchen here that is open. On a Monday, Oceana and Pie Whole are closed, which leaves Twisted Cork and Sambuca's. Saturday dinner means Oceana, Sambuca's or the pizza oven.

Late summer is the other gap. Oceana takes a month off at the end of summer: in 2026 it closed from August 30 to September 30, per its own site, so for a trip in September or early October, call before you count on a table. Other names on visitor lists are not here because we could not read a site of their own in October 2026; that is not a statement that they are closed.

Booking a table in Frenchtown

Oceana books through OpenTable, by phone or by email, and asks parties larger than five to call. Per its own site as of October 2026, a party of six or more secures the table with a card, a table is held for fifteen minutes, and a no-show or a cancellation after noon on the day costs $30 a person. Twisted Cork takes requests by email with your name, the date, the number of guests and the time. Pie Whole takes reservations and takeaway orders by phone on (340) 642-5074, per its October 2026 menu. Sambuca's books through its own site and adds a 20% gratuity for parties of five or more, per its dinner menu as of October 2026.

Getting to Frenchtown for dinner

Measured from the middle of the neighborhood, Charlotte Amalie is 5 minutes by car, Cyril E. King Airport 12 and the Red Hook ferry terminal 34. From a house on the East End, that makes dinner here a drive of more than half an hour each way, after dark, on the left.
