Point Pleasant, St. Thomas
Point Pleasant, St. Thomas, is the stretch of the north-east shore above Water Bay, and much of what carries the name is Point Pleasant Resort, on the hillside over the bay. The St. John ferry and five beaches with guides are short drives. From the middle of the area, the Red Hook ferry is 11 minutes by car.
Staying in Point Pleasant
Much of what carries the name Point Pleasant is a single resort. Point Pleasant Resort stands on the hillside above Water Bay, and our property list counts it among the resorts on St. Thomas where owners rent out their own units. A villa listed on this site is placed by its owner or the owner's manager, so the questions about that unit, its view, its beds and the walk to the pool go to the owner rather than to a front desk, and the rate on the listing is the owner's.
One measurement sets the area apart from its neighbors. Among the areas 12 minutes or less from the Red Hook ferry, Point Pleasant alone measures flat around the middle of the area; Red Hook and Cabrita Point measure steep, and Smith Bay and Sapphire Bay rolling. That reading is for the middle, not for every door. The resort's units climb the slope above the bay, so before you choose one, ask the owner how many steps lie between the door, the car and the water, and whether the resort runs a shuttle on its grounds.
Every outing from here starts with the car keys. From the middle of the area, the Red Hook ferry terminal is 11 minutes by car, Charlotte Amalie 19 and Cyril E. King Airport 34, by our measurement. Boats for Cruz Bay leave Red Hook through the day and take 20 minutes across, and the last boat back is 10 pm from Cruz Bay per the Department of Public Works as of September 2026. Dinner on St. John works when the evening is planned around that sailing.
Five beaches with guides of their own are within 10 minutes by car from the middle of the area. The closest, Lindquist Beach at 3 minutes, is closed for now. The Magens Bay Authority shut Smith Bay Park, as the beach is officially named, for sargassum on July 9, 2026 with no date set to reopen; the St. Thomas Source carried the notice the day before, and we found no reopening announced by October 8, 2026. When it opens again, visitors pay $7 a person, children under 12 go free and parking is $2, per the Authority as of October 2026. Coki Beach, 4 minutes, is a free public beach run by the Department of Sports, Parks and Recreation, where parking is scarce and charged for and taxis from the cruise piers bring a crowd. Sapphire Beach is 6 minutes, Secret Harbour Beach 9 and Vessup Beach 10. Across the island, Magens Bay takes 18 minutes and charges $7 a person, per the Magens Bay Authority as of October 2026.
Where Point Pleasant gives ground is the airport and the evenings in town. Cyril E. King Airport is 34 minutes from the middle of the area, a drive to time with care on the last morning once the rental car has to go back, and a dinner in Charlotte Amalie means 19 minutes each way. A week built around the town's restaurants is better placed nearer town. A week built around the ferry, the pool and a different East End beach each morning fits here. Settle the car before you land, since no beach with a guide is measured on foot from here.
Suits guests who would rather have a resort villa than a house, with the Red Hook ferry 11 minutes off and five beaches with guides within 10.

Point Pleasant Resort finished installing generators across the complex in the first half of 2026, by a broker's report of June 2026, so ask whether the unit you rent is on them. Water is supplied through the resort, and phones hold a usable signal on the hillside over Water Bay, by our read.

- Point Pleasant is on the north-east shore of St. Thomas, US Virgin Islands, above Water Bay and off Smith Bay Road, north of Red Hook. Much of it is Point Pleasant Resort. From the middle of the area, the Red Hook ferry terminal is 11 minutes by car and Charlotte Amalie 19, by our measurement.

- Yes, and the useful question is where it parks. The resort's villas sit on the hillside over Water Bay, so the walk from a door to the car or the pool can mean steps up or down. Ask the owner how long that walk is and whether the resort runs a shuttle on its grounds. The ferry, town and the beaches are all drives.
- How far is Point Pleasant from the airport?
- Thirty-four minutes by car from the middle of the area to Cyril E. King Airport, by our measurement. For the flight home, count those 34 minutes and the time it takes to hand back a rental car. A taxi for the same run is $23 for one person or $17 each for two or more, as it is to Red Hook, on the Virgin Islands Taxicab Commission's tariff in force since October 2022, plus $3 a bag.
