St. John, USVI restaurants and bars by area

St. John's restaurants sit in two places, Cruz Bay and Coral Bay, with daytime counters on the North Shore beaches between them. Most of the island's tables are in Cruz Bay, a walk from the ferry. Coral Bay is 28 minutes east by our measurement. Many places close or shorten hours in September and October, so every row below carries the day we read it.

How to choose by where you are staying

Choose by the drive, not the menu. Sixteen of the twenty-five places listed here are in Cruz Bay, inside a few blocks of the ferry dock, Wharfside Village and Mongoose Junction, so a villa on the west side can walk or take a short taxi to dinner and back. Coral Bay has five, on or near the harbor, and it suits the villas in Coral Bay, Johns Folly and the East End, which are 28 to 41 minutes from the ferry by our measurement.

The North Shore is lunch, not dinner. The Trunk Bay Snack Shack and Bar runs 10 am to 4 pm by the National Park Service's hours page, Maho Crossroads sits across the road from Maho Bay, and Cinnamon Bay's Rain Tree Cafe is the one place on that road that serves dinner, in the campground's season.

Beach bars on St. John

The beach bars on St. John are of three kinds. In Cruz Bay, The Beach Bar and High Tide sit on the sand beside the ferry dock; The Beach Bar says it takes no reservations and High Tide says the same. On the North Shore, the bars are counters run for the beach: Trunk Bay's inside the park, Maho Crossroads across the road. In Coral Bay, Miss Lucy's is on the water at Friis Bay, and Lime Out is a floating taco bar in the harbor, reached by its own $30 round-trip shuttle from the boat ramp beside the dinghy dock, per its site as of October 2026, with no reservations.

The tradeoff: dinner in the east is a night drive

A Coral Bay dinner from a Cruz Bay villa means Centerline Road both ways, 28 minutes each way by our measurement, the return after dark. From an East End house, Cruz Bay is 41 minutes. Plan the evenings by side of the island before you book the house, and keep the long drive for a lunch.

The season matters too. As of October 9, 2026, Lime Out's St. John bar was still on the break it takes most years from mid-August to mid-October, 18°64° had its lunch and raw bar closed for the off-season, and Morgan's Mango had reopened on October 8 after its low-season break. Skinny Legs and La Tapa Plage closed for the season in August, and both point to a return around Halloween. The Saint John Island Guide's 2026 list had Miss Lucy's and Dazey's Bayhouse closed since late July, and Banana Deck has been shut since mid-August; all three are expected back with the winter season, in November or early December. Before a fall dinner at any of them, call ahead.

Questions about where to eat and drink on St. John

Is there food at Trunk Bay?
Yes, a daytime counter inside the park. The National Park Service lists the Trunk Bay Snack Shack and Bar from 10 am to 4 pm as of October 2026, which covers lunch and nothing after. The beach fee for visitors 16 and over applies before you reach it.
Which St. John restaurant is best?
This page does not rank them. It lists restaurants and bars by area, each checked against its own site, with the hours and reservation rule each publishes. The useful question is which side of the island you are on: Cruz Bay has the most choice and the late tables, Coral Bay a handful on the harbor.
